The tree on the left causes much trouble due to its roots under the track. they have to be pruned every two years & can grow 6inch thick in this time.

The track is laid direct into the ground, no ballast is required as the sleepers don't rot.

I spring the rail to the curve required, hold with iron stakes, then dig the trench for the sleepers.

The sleepers have to harden as long as possible, at least a month.

When the track was first laid I was amazed at the amount of root on the tree, but my son in law dealt with them,(he is a big bloke).
