The tree on the left causes much trouble due to its roots under the track. they have to be pruned every two years & can grow 6inch thick in this time.

Up the Garden

The track is laid direct into the ground, no ballast is required as the sleepers don't rot.

Laying track on the front

I spring the rail to the curve required, hold with iron stakes, then dig the trench for the sleepers.

Laying top curve

The sleepers have to harden as long as possible, at least a month.

Removing sleepers from moulds

When the track was first laid I was amazed at the amount of root on the tree, but my son in law dealt with them,(he is a big bloke).

relaying due to tree roots

The raised track runs through the assembly shop into the workshop(formerly the front room).

The track runs to the front room window
